Privacy Policy
This policy explains what SmartSave collects, how it is used, and how that applies to the SmartSave website and the SmartSave Chrome extension.
Last updated: April 24, 2026
The SmartSave Chrome extension has one purpose: connecting a user's Chrome bookmarks with their SmartSave account so bookmarks can be imported and kept in sync.
The extension does not sell user data and does not use collected data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated profiling.
Account information
If you create or use a SmartSave account, SmartSave may process your email address and the authentication details needed to sign you in.
Bookmark and website content
When you connect the Chrome extension, SmartSave processes your Chrome bookmark data, including bookmark titles, URLs, folder structure, and related metadata needed to import and sync those bookmarks.
Extension local state
The extension stores local state in Chrome storage, such as authentication state, profile identifiers, folder mappings, sync status, and queued changes needed for offline retry behavior.
We use information to:
- authenticate users and connect browser profiles to SmartSave,
- import existing Chrome bookmarks into SmartSave,
- sync bookmark creates, edits, moves, and deletions,
- maintain folder mappings and sync state, and
- retry queued sync actions when the device comes back online.
bookmarks
Used to read bookmark data and detect bookmark changes so SmartSave can import and keep bookmarks in sync.
storage
Used to store extension state locally, including sync progress and offline queue data.
alarms
Used to run periodic background checks and retry queued sync work.
Host access
Used only for `https://smartsave.dev/*` so the extension can sign users in, call SmartSave extension API endpoints, and detect login completion on SmartSave pages.
SmartSave does not sell user data to third parties. Data handled by the extension is transferred only to SmartSave services to provide authentication and bookmark sync functionality.
The extension does not execute remotely hosted code. All executable extension code is packaged with the extension itself.
You can also return to SmartSave.
